The semiconductor industry is accelerating research and development in line with the growth of the AI semiconductor market. With the high memory requirements of artificial intelligence, memory has become a factor that determines the power consumption and processing time of the entire AI semiconductor. Therefore, it is expected that Processing In Memory (PIM), which newly configures the computing structure around memory and integrates Memory and Processor into a single chip, will replace NPU with significantly improved performance.
The future AI semiconductor market is expected to be dominated by PIM, and national convergence is essential to secure competitiveness. The PIM Semiconductor Design Research Center, also known as AI-PIM, was established to pool the PIM research capabilities of academia, industry, and government in Korea.
The PIM Semiconductor Design Research Center has three main businesses:
* PIM-IPX: Develops IP and platforms, and builds and operates databases.
* KPIM: Supports comprehensive services for PIM semiconductor development by establishing a technology collaboration system between researchers.
* PIM Elite: Cultivates cross-disciplinary talents through educational collaboration between companies, research institutions, and universities.
